Best Riding Season is Here, and here are things you need to know before the summer riding

There’s nothing quite like riding through Wisconsin in the summer. The sun’s out, the roads are calling, and your Harley is ready to go. Whether you're planning a long road trip with your buddies, exploring new routes solo, or looking forward to local riding events, summer is the season to make it all happen.

At Doc’s Harley-Davidson in Bonduel, we’re just as excited as you are. But before you hit the road, let’s talk about a few ways to stay safe, ride smart, and make the most out of every mile this summer.

Get your bike ready for the season

Your Harley might’ve sat through part of spring, so summer is the perfect time for a once-over. Check your tire pressure and tread, test your brakes, and top off all fluids. Make sure your battery is charged and your lights are working right, especially if you plan on riding into the evening.

If you’re not up for a full check yourself, swing by the dealership. We’ll help get your bike road-ready so you can focus on the ride.

ONE: Gear up for the heat

Summer riding gear isn’t just about comfort, it’s about safety too. Lightweight riding jackets with breathable mesh, moisture-wicking shirts, and ventilated helmets help you stay cool while still offering protection. Don't forget gloves and a neck gaiter to shield you from sunburn and wind.

Hydration is key, especially on longer rides. Bring a refillable water bottle or consider a hydration pack so you can sip on the go. Take breaks often, especially during midday heat.

TWO: Plan the right kind of trip

Summer’s the time to stretch your riding legs, but not all trips need to be coast-to-coast. You can plan:

  • Long weekend trips with friends: Head north toward the Upper Peninsula, or cruise along Lake Michigan for scenic views and cool breezes.
  • Solo getaways: Pick a quiet backroad, explore rural Wisconsin, and enjoy some time just you and the bike.
  • Day rides: Don’t have all weekend? No problem. A few hours on your favorite route can be just as refreshing.
  • Whatever kind of trip you plan, build in rest stops, fuel breaks, and local eats. Part of the fun is what you find along the way.

Three: Stay safe out there

Summer riding has its perks, but it also comes with some challenges. Stay alert for increased traffic, road construction, and loose gravel on country roads. Use sunscreen even on overcast days, and wear sunglasses or a helmet with a tinted visor to reduce glare.

Riding early in the morning or later in the evening can help you avoid the hottest parts of the day, and those times often come with some of the best views anyway.

Four: Make the most of local events

One of the best things about summer in Wisconsin is the lineup of riding events, bike nights, and rallies. It’s a great way to connect with other riders, test ride new models, and check out custom bikes and gear.

Doc’s Harley-Davidson hosts summer events throughout the season, including test ride days, community rides, and summer celebrations. Whether you’re looking to upgrade your ride, meet fellow riders, or just enjoy a burger and live music, there’s always something happening here.

Keep an eye on our event calendar or stop by the dealership to see what’s coming up.
